Training
“Well and generously staffed, imaginatively worked out and (not something you always get on courses) positively life-enhancing and invigorating (in spite of the hard work!)”
We have a 25 year history of providing training in spiritual accompaniment in the Ignatian tradition — a tradition we continue to develop in response to our experience of those we train.
“By far one of the most professional courses I have been on — especially so as it is a short course. I have done teacher training, social work training, ministerial training and they have all had they different challenges. But this training for me was excellent, especially the triads and pairs (even though they were nerve wracking). I also wish to say that … the staff/team are exceptional.”
12 Week Training Programme

9th January - 22nd March, 2012 (£3,880)
4th January - 19th March, 2013 (£4,057)
Our main offering, ideal as a sabbatical but suitable for anyone wishing to accompany others in prayer, is our 12 Week Training Programme. This comprises the Spiritual Exercises of Ignatius Loyola as a 30-day individually guided retreat; Spiritual Accompaniment Course I; Spiritual Accompaniment Course II; and a week of supervised prayer-guiding in the local area.
It is also possible, by arrangement, to do those parts of programme which suit you best.
Spiritual Accompaniment Course I

15th - 24th February, 2012 (£590)
11th - 20th February, 2013 (£600)
Our well established introductory course – participants are helped to reflect on their own life and prayer. Through input and supervised practice they are offered the skills and confidence to begin to accompany others. Topics covered include: ways of praying, discernment and the will of God, faith story, listening skills, images of God, reflective living.
Spiritual Accompaniment Course II
9th - 22nd March, 2011 (£775)
7th - 20th March, 2012 (£790)
4th - 17th March, 2013 (£830)
As a spiritual director Ignatius Loyola did not so much tell people what to do as help them discover and discern God’s activity in their lives. This course is for those who already have some training and experience of accompanying others in prayer (or perhaps counselling) and who wish to develop further skills in spiritual direction in the Ignatian tradition. This is an experiential course working with themes of the Spiritual Exercises. We require that participants have made the full Spiritual Exercises, whether in daily life, as a 30 day retreat, or in 10-day stages.
Spiritual Accompaniment Course III
no retreats match those criteria
This three part course is for people who have completed our Spiritual Accompaniment Course II and are now regularly offering accompaniment. There will be opportunities for supervision, observed practice, inputs, seminar style learning and personal reflection.
Non-residential Spiritual Accompaniment Course
4th October, 2010 - 30th June, 2012 (£550)
(Autumn 2010: Mondays 4th October – 20th December & Saturday 13th November)
This new two year course will incorporate most of the elements of our current residential courses – Spiritual Accompaniment I and II. It will take place on Monday evenings, plus about one Saturday per term. Participants in this course must have completed the full Spiritual Exercises before beginning the second year (either in residential retreat or in daily life).
The listed offering covers both years and can be paid in parts.

Each weekend will be a combination of reading, discussion and seminar-style teaching with Philip. When booking, preference will be given to those who book for both weekends.
