As the sampling above shows, Loyola Hall offers a broad variety of retreats, workshops and courses catering to many kinds of needs. We welcome a wide range of visitors from full-time Christian ministers to those alienated from the church — anyone in fact seeking with an open heart to deepen their spirituality, find a life lived with meaning, or nurture their relationship with God.
All our events spring from the spirituality of St. Ignatius Loyola, the founder of the Roman Catholic religious order known as the Jesuits. That is most obvious in the full 30-day Spiritual Exercises but it is equally true of the weekends for lesbian and gay people, for those divorced or separated, ill or bereaved.
Ignatian Silent Retreats
The mainstay of our work is a year-round programme of individually-guided retreats of various lengths from weekends, through mid-week or 8-day retreats, to the full 30-day Spiritual Exercises. You can read more about Ignatian individually-guided retreats. We also offer a few preached retreats and can, if space is available, accommodate individuals wanting to make private retreats.
As a house of quiet and prayer Loyola Hall asks all those who stay with us to keep silence outside of any group sessions or workshops.
Courses and Training in Spiritual Accompaniment/Spiritual Direction
We also offer a wide range of training in spiritual accompaniment / direction to those wishing to learn to offer spiritual direction and retreats or to deepen their understanding of the Spiritual Exercises. Our 12-week training programme is particularly suitable for someone on sabbatical.
Day Events
For those living more locally we offer many one-day events: Loyola Days (with quiet and community and input on a theme), Ministry Days (for anyone in full- or part-time Christian ministry), Clergy Days, Family Days (for parents and children), and Training Days (offering opportunities to grow in the theory and practice of spiritual accompaniment).
Young Adults: 18-35
You don’t have to be outside this age-range to come on any of our events but two are aimed in particular at ‘younger’ people: our Holy Week celebration/retreat and In Search of a Way, a retreat for those trying to find a deeper direction in life.
Most of our work with young adults happens off-site in experiences of guided prayer in daily life taking place in university and college retreats.
Spiritual Direction and Supervision
If you are looking for a spiritual director or for supervision (for ministry or for your own spiritual-direction practice) please write to the Director giving some details about yourself and what you are looking for.
Conference/Meeting Venue
Finally, Loyola Hall is also available for conferences, meetings, or other events. We can accommodate 40 in single rooms or 50-60 for a day. Please enquire with the Director.
