Being With God in Chronic Illness
posted on March 27th, 2010
Having a chronic illness can be an isolating experience.
Illnesses such as fibromyalgia, CFS/ME, depression, MS and arthritis may force us to live with chronic pain, exhaustion, depression and ongoing limitations of our capabilities. This can challenge our sense of ourselves, our sense of our place in the world and our sense of who God is.
The ‘Being With God in Chronic Illness’ retreat emerges out of a search for a spirituality which takes chronic illness seriously–a spirituality that acknowledges the reality of who and how we are as people living with these conditions, and that also takes seriously the belief that God is to be found, even in illness.
The retreat is an opportunity to meet with others who live with chronic conditions, to explore some of the struggles and consolations of faith, to be still, and to spend time with the God who walks with us through all things. A previous participant commented:
‘this retreat has been informative, funny, encouraging, challenging and very, very helpful’
There are still a few places left for this year’s retreat running 20-24th June.
